Einblick in die Geschichte mit Ausblick auf ganz Leipzig

Str. des 18. Oktober 100,
04299 Leipzig

The nickname ‘Völki’ used by the locals could be misleading, because what awaits you in Wilhelm-Külz-Park is a gigantic structure! The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is not only one of Leipzig’s most famous landmarks, it is also one of the largest monuments in the whole of Europe. Since 1913, it has commemorated the decisive battle of the Wars of Liberation exactly 100 years earlier. If you are enthusiastic about historical war equipment, you can gain an even deeper insight into the battle at that time in the neighbouring museum.
But a visit here is not only worthwhile for history buffs: Once you have bravely climbed the 365 steps of the monument, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the city from a height of 91 metres! Barrier-free access is also provided. The ‘Lake of Tears’, which lies at the feet of the colossus, creates a unique atmosphere that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on (and your holiday photos)! For this very reason and because of the great acoustics, open-air concerts and other outdoor events often take place here.
