Another great example of ‘upcycling’ can be found in Leipzig’s Neuseenland, where a diverse bathing landscape has been created from old open-cast mining pits. Over the years, Leipzig’s favourite local recreation area has been created – with a whopping 20 lakes. On warmer days, Lake Cospuden, affectionately known as ‘Cossi’, with the largest sandy beach in Saxony and the best water quality, attracts its fans out into the countryside. As if being able to bury your feet in fine sand and cool off in crystal-clear water not far from the city wasn’t luxury enough, the Cossi also offers you idyllic space for all kinds of activities: The romantic scenery is perfect for walking, jogging or cycling. You can sail, surf or paddle on the water, refreshments and snacks are available on the shore and even more highlights are provided by open-air events such as the TH!NK? festival on the north beach of the lake. If you really want to heat yourself up, then sweat it out in the ‘Sauna am See’. The direct access to the lake provides the necessary refreshment and a strengthened immune system afterwards!
